Während ihrer Ausbildung in der Metallwerkstatt des Bauhaus in Weimar entwarf Marianne Brandt 1924 den Aschenbecher MB 23 E, einen zylindrischen Aschenbecher mit einem kippbaren Deckel, der die Asche in den darunterliegenden Behälter rutschen lässt. Heute wird er nach dem Originalentwurf von Tecnolumen produziert wird.

László Moholy-Nagy erkannte schon früh Marianne Brandts einzigartiges Talent. Durch ihn angeregt, studierte Brandt in der Männerdomäne Metallwerkstatt – und war erfolgreicher als manch einer ihrer Kommilitonen.
